What We Do

LondonEnergy plays a key role in keeping London clean and green.

We provide essential waste management services to over 2 million residents living in north London.

Waste Treatment

We follow the waste hierarchy, screening and sorting the waste we receive to determine the most efficient and sustainable disposal method.

Recycling

We recycle 200,000 tonnes of waste each year from various sources including garden and food waste from household collections, as well as items brought to our Reuse and Recycling Centres.

The Energy Centre

We create energy from household waste which is unsuitable for recycling. We generate enough electricity to power 80,000 homes every year.

Our team work to ensure we take your waste and recycle or reuse it wherever possible, creating energy from any unsuitable waste. Our energy from waste facility at the Edmonton EcoPark site in North London generates enough energy to power 80,000 homes and businesses in North London annually.

This ensures that very little waste is sent to landfill, and we export around 85% of the electricity we generate. Our remaining 15% powers our operations at the EcoPark.

We manage about 200,000 tonnes of recyclable materials from household collections every year. The mixed dry recycling we receive is processed and sorted at our Wembley or Islington site and then taken to a Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) in London, where they are sorted into various materials.

After sorting, they are taken to reprocessors, such as paper mills or plastics recycling plants, where they are recycled and made into new products.

The EcoPark is being redeveloped to build the greenest Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) in the country and modern recycling facilities. We are determined to keep treating North London’s waste for the next 50 years and recover more energy.

To reuse, recycle and create energy from waste for our communities.
